Gdy jestem w podróży, wynajduję różnego rodzaju galerię. Często są to zbiory malarstwa. Uwielbiam się snuć — po zwykle — pustych galeriach! Ten obraz wisi w Zagrzebiu. Diego Velázquez / Infantka Maria Teresa. Niewielki bo 30x27 cm. I piękny, jak większość jego obrazów. Chodził mi po głowie już trzeci rok. Rumieńce i fryzura. Nie mogłam się odczepić, tak po prostu. When I travel, I like to visit different types of art galleries, especially painting collections. I just adore wandering around in usually empty galleries! This painting is to be found in Zagreb. Diego Velázquez / Infanta Maria Teresa. It’s a small painting, just 30x27 cm. It’s so beautiful though, like most of his paintings. I’ve been thinking about it every now and then for 3 years. The adorable blush and the adorable hair. I simply couldn’t let it go. |

Zaczęłam od rysunków. Rumieńce to wiadomo…, ale fryzurę chciałam zbudować NIE z włosów. To był marzec. Nie do końca wiedziałam, czy żuki, czy liście, czy żukoliście.
I started with drawings. The blush was easy… but I wanted the hair to be NON-hairy. It was March. I didn’t quite know if it should be beetles or leaves or beetle leaves.

Czas leciał. Do tematu wróciłam w czerwcu. Dalej nie wiedziałam co dziewczyna będzie miała na głowie. Zajęłam się twarzą.
The time was passing by. I didn‘t get back to the idea until June. I still didn’t have a clue about the hair. I started up with the face.

To było zaraz po moich wakacjach, z których przywiozłam dużo pięknych tkanin! Poza tym, mój zapas na inną pracę, do której farbowałam tkaniny, został napoczęty.
It was right after my holiday when I’d got lots of beautiful fabrics! I also used some of fabrics I had saved and dyed for another work.

Standardowo zaczynam od układanki pod kalką. Z grubsza: kolor, światło, cień.
I start as usual with putting the pieces together under transparent paper. It’s a draft of the colors, light and shadows. |

Pierwsze przeszycia, takie które mocują kawałki tkanin/ First stitching are made to hitch the pieces.

do fragmentu, który mnie interesuje

Czasami odwieszam pracę, oglądam z dystansu, wpatruję się. Jeśli nie jestem do końca pewna, czy to już, to po raz kolejny rysuję twarz…
Sometimes I take down the quilt, watch it from distance, gaze at it. If I’m not quite sure if it’s finished, I draw the face yet another time…

– i zaznaczam miejsca gdzie nie jest dobrze. Jaśniej, ciemniej, itd. Taka korekta edytorska :D
– and I mark the spots that need to be corrected: made lighter, darker etc. Sort of an editorial correction :D

I tak… dochodzimy do miejsca, gdzie wciąż nie wiem co będzie na głowie! Ale dramatu nie ma, bo wiem, w jakich kolorach.
And so… we reach the point when I still have no idea for the hair!
However, it’s not that bad as I know what colors it will have. |

I nagle, pomyślałam o prosciutto! Szyłam je wcześniej na pizzę, i była to nie zła zabawa. Dlaczego nie spróbować raz jeszcze? Plan na fryzurę był mniej więcej taki, że będzie przestrzennie. Uszyłam jakieś 0,4 kg szynki (grubo krojona ;) ) i przypięłam ją szpilkami. Przespałam się z widokiem infantki z mięsem na głowie.
Nawet tytuł już mi się klarował… klamka zapadła.
Suddenly, I came to think of prosciutto! I’ve sewed for a pizza before and it was kind of fun. Why not try i tone more time? The plan for the hair was more or less that it will be 3D. I sewed around 0,4 kg ham (thick sliced ;)) and pinned it up with pins. Then I slept over with the picture of the infanta with meat on her head on my mind.
I even had kind of an idea about the title… there’s no turning back.

A tu? Tu chciałam sprawdzić czy jeśli będzie na bogato, to będzie lepiej czy gorzej. Gorzej.

I ostatni element to wdzianko. Potraktowałam je bardziej szkicowo. Na twarzy i głowie dzieje się już tak dużo,
że nie ma sensu by sweterek rywalizował z rumieńcami.
The last part: the clothes. I only gave it a draft. There is so much going on on the face and the head that the sweater has no chance competing with the blush.
